The Inheritance

By Matthew Lopez
Directed by Tom Story | Roundhouse Theatre

he Inheritance follows a group of young gay men in New York as they wrestle with love, legacy, and the shadow of the AIDS crisis. Deeply moving and bitingly funny, this unforgettable production asks: What do we owe those who came before us, and what will we leave behind?

Reviews

Projections designer Kelly Colburn shows vivid torrents of sleeting rain and thunderstorms, and waves rolling in off of the ocean on Fire Island. Drifting snow falls on the sidewalks of New York City. All these visual effects are distinctive while effectively enriching the feel of this dramatic yet often bitterly witty play.

Accentuating the storytelling with refined flair, Kelly Colburn’s mesmerizing projections frequently utilized the empty spaces in the decorative wall molding, such as with line drawings of pouring rain, blurred clips from the films Eric played for Adam, or the soft indigo waves of Fire Island. Cohesive and restrained, the design elements were a triumph.
